Frequently Asked Questions – 64mm Duramax Turbocharger (2004.5–2010 LLY/LBZ/LMM)
What vehicles does this turbo fit?
This is a 100% direct drop-in turbocharger for 2004.5–2010 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD Duramax trucks. It fits LLY (2004.5–2005), LBZ (2006–2007), and LMM (2007.5–2010) engines with no fitment modifications required.
How much power will this turbo support?
The 64mm is capable of up to 650 HP with proper fueling. It features quick spool characteristics, strong torque at lower RPMs, and steady, reliable power delivery throughout the rev range, yet still delivering peak power potential, making it an excellent choice for both daily driving and tow applications. This turbo enhances throttle response, overall drivability, and engine efficiency compared to a stock unit, while maintaining durability for towing or performance setups.
Do I need custom tuning?
Owners should be aware that proper management of engine parameters can significantly impact turbocharger longevity and overall performance.
What’s the difference between the 10-blade and 9-blade turbine options?
10-Blade Turbine (Standard)
- OE-style performance turbine design used for years
- Excellent overall drivability with quick spool and strong mid-range response
- Distinct, clean whistle that’s noticeable but far less extreme than the 9-blade
- Ideal for towing, daily driving, and balanced performance setups
9-Blade Turbine (+$75 Upgrade)
- Produces ~15 HP more further back more flat in the power curve, which improves drivability at the same commanded power level
- Runs ~100°F lower EGTs at a given power number
- Carries 2–3 PSI more boost at the same drive pressure, offering increased efficiency
- More aggressive whistle and exhaust tone
- Best for customers wanting maximum efficiency and added performance without sacrificing spool
What comes in the optional install kit?
The install kit (+$75) includes every gasket and seal needed for proper installation:
- Up-pipe to manifold gaskets
- Up-pipe to turbine housing gaskets
- Both drain gaskets
- Oil feed banjo gasket
- Both coolant banjo gaskets
These are the exact components we recommend replacing during any turbo swap.
What warranty does this turbo include?
All 64mm Duramax turbos carry a 2-year warranty against manufacturer defects. This warranty is valid when the turbo is properly registered with us.
Note: The following conditions WILL VOID WARRANTY coverage:
- Removing the compressor cover, disassembling the turbo, or powder coating the housing
- Oil Issues: Contaminated, poor-quality, insufficient, or improper oil
- Overspeed / Engine Issues: Turbocharger overspeed caused by boost leaks, improper tuning, or vehicle-related sensor malfunctions
- Air Intake Issues: Damage caused by contaminated air, dirty, or clogged filters
- Misuse / External Factors: Damage from improper installation, modifications, accidents, or negligence
For any other warranty questions, please reference our warranty section found at the top of the page.
What are the key technical specifications?
- 64mm 6-blade proprietary compressor wheel
- High-flow vane assembly
- Heavy-duty bearing system with 360° thrust bearing
- Includes both vane position sensor and vane solenoid
- Fully drop-in with OEM-style connections
What supporting mods are recommended?
A quality cold air intake is recommended when upgrading to a performance turbocharger to get the most out of the unit and to avoid overspeed issues caused by intake air restrictions.
Important clarification: A lift pump is not a fueling upgrade. It does not increase rail pressure or add horsepower. A lift pump is strictly a supporting modification—its purpose is to protect the CP3, maintain consistent supply pressure, and improve overall fuel system reliability. Actual fueling upgrades require a higher-output CP3 or dual CP3 setup and larger injectors.

Huge improvement over the stock charger in my 2006 3500HD! My truck is used to haul my fifth wheel around and daily driver. The whistle sounds great, the power comes in quickly, highly recommended upgrade for any Duramax owner….

Threw this in along side a high flow kit and 5 inch exhaust. I’m a huge fan of the power and who doesn’t like a stupidly loud turbo? My neighbors that’s who. Anyways the turbo is a complete 180 off the stock, instant power. Install was easy only had 1 hiccup which was a copper gasket going into the turbo coolant feed fitting. I can’t knock the rating based off that because it’s possible it was my mistake installing it incorrectly. Called and talked to Ryan himself and was very informative on how to solve the issue and what they do in the shop. Overall, shopped around and was thinking about going with a competitors turbo but very glad I decided on this one. I dealt with Ryan on the phone multiple times and he was extremely informative, not something you get with the larger companies. I would recommend any of their products.

Heard about you guys watching truckmasters videos. Gotta say I am extremely impressed with your shops work. My 2005 has never ran this good. The throttle response is almost instant, my neighbors think I own a Boeing 737 and it’s amazing lol. And I can notice a huge positive change on the ole butt dyno. Cannot thank you guys enough! Would recommend you to anybody!

Turbo installed and sounds great in my Nissan Patrol LBZ swap, came with everything needed and fits like it should. Ryan’s Diesel Service have been great to deal with, I’m in Australia and communication was via email and my questions were answered quickly. They even allowed me to arrange my own freight through Interparcel/UPS and send the shipping labels through. Thanks again guys, will happily recommend to others.

I have and 06 LBZ and got the 64mm with high flow vanes paired it was an s480 and the truck made a 1000whp with stock like drivability and a lot of top end pull. It has been a massive improvement over the previous setup which was a 68mm and the s480 in both drivability and power

I have a 06 2500HD LBZ and decided to go with the 64mm turbo. That was one of the best decisions for my truck. The throttle response is awesome, and it sounds great. The technical service is second to none. I called a couple of time with questions, and they were very knowledgeable and very helpful. I highly recommend using Ryan’s Diesel Service.
I learned about Ryans Diesel Service from Truck Master (Josh) and I can’t thank him enough for the recommendation. The joint videos with Truck Master and Ryans Diesel Service have been very informative and helpful. Thank you to the great team at Ryans Diesel Serice.
